NEW YORK (CBS News) — Actor Michael Douglas’ publicist is backing away from a report about what caused the actor’s throat cancer.
Michael Douglas said in an interview with The Guardian his throat cancer was caused by human papillomavirus, a sexually transmitted disease. However, shortly after the interview was published Monday, a representative for Douglas denied The Guardian’s headline.
Despite the confusion, the actor’s interview has raised awareness about the medical concerns over oral sex and a connection to throat cancer.
